Mr. Spears has over twenty years experience with Fisheries and Oceans Canada. He has held positions related to marine data management ranging from database and systems developer, to information architect and project manager, and technical lead. Mr. Spears currently manages a multi-disciplinary team of database, application and web site developers, data technicians, and field support staff. Mr. Spears also actively participates in the marine data management and information technology community.
Mr. Spears participates at the national and international levels through organizations including Research Data Canada, the International Oceanographic Data and Information Exchange, and the World Meteorological Organization.
Some of Mr. Spears’ current areas of activity include data and metadata exchange and technical/semantic interoperability, data management planning and tools, cloud architecture and service implementation, high performance computing intake and onboarding, national and international data and metadata exchange.
