For nearly 25 years, Paul has been solving low power satellite telemetry challenges for marine researchers, program managers and ocean technology manufacturers around the world. Today, as a Business Development Manager for Canada’s largest Iridium Communications Inc. partner, MetOcean Telematics in Halifax, Paul manages the telematics needs of users in over 50 countries. Paul’s experience spans beyond the oceans, to wildlife tracking, search and rescue, IoT/M2M and virtually every facet of remote environmental monitoring known including precession agriculture and fisheries conservation.
In January 2017, Iridium began to replace their original Block 1 constellation deployed in 1998 with the world’s first truly global, Low Earth Orbit, broadband satellite network called Iridium NEXT. This new technology will have a profound effect on how autonomous instrumentation and robotic systems transmit ocean data via satellite in real time, opening a completely new world of high-resolution sampling and observation.
Collecting Ocean Data: Challenges and Approaches panel. Paul’s discussion will focus on we got here and presents a new world of endless future possibilities.
