Dr. Owen Sherwood

Dr. Owen Sherwood is an Assistant Professor of Earth Sciences at Dalhousie University in Halifax. He specializes in stable isotope geochemistry as a tool to solve problems ranging from marine nutrient cycles, greenhouse gas emissions, petroleum geochemistry, and environmental impacts of oil and gas development. His presentation at the Big Data Conference will show how big data can help to inform the often fractious debates surrounding unconventional oil and gas development in North America. Drawing from examples in Colorado, he will show how the oil and gas regulator in that state facilitates the public dissemination of oil and gas development and environmental data, leading to better-informed public policy.
